Balloon Over Kyoto
After the first flight at Versailles in 1783, hot air balloons soon made their way across the English Channel and on to America. In that spirit of adventure, my balloons are visiting other countries. Although Japan was closed to the outside world during this time, if Balloonomania had arrived there during the Edo period, this is what I imagine it would look like. This balloon is floating over Kyoto, with its many historic temples, shrines and pagodas. The beautiful garden of the Heian Jingu Shrine, with its covered bridge over a serene lake nestled in its midst, inspired the setting. A guardian ryu (dragon) sails with the balloon to protect the passengers.
Each print is part of a limited edition of 100.
Available in two sizes:
14 in. x 17 in. (image size: 12 in. x 15 in., with a 1 in. margin all around)
11 in. x 14 in. (image size: 10 in. x 12.5 in., with 0.5 in. side margins and 0.75 in. top and bottom margins)
