Bouquet de Fleurs dans Vase en Verre a’ la Ambrosius Bosschaert
This piece was inspired by a call to artists by the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. to reimagine one of 100 masterworks from its collection. I chose Bouquet of Flowers in a Glass Vase painted by Dutch master Ambrosius Bosschaert in 1621. I love how the large tulip and iris at the top of the bouquet are counterbalanced by the lush roses and lily of the valley curving onto the vase at the bottom, accompanied by an attentive butterfly. The Bosschaert work includes a plaque by the artist under the bouquet with these rather grandiose words (translated from French): “This is the angelic hand of the great painter of Flora, Ambroisus, renowned even to the banks of the More [a river in Africa].” My piece has a more modest plaque with my name for the piece (in French, in homage to the original).
Each print is part of a limited edition of 50 and is lightly embellished with gold pen by the artist. Prints are signed and numbered by the artist.
Available in 11 in. x 14 in. (image size: 9.5 in. x 12.5 in., with a .75 in. margin all around).
